Thaya Winery is a modern wine estate located in Havraníky, in the heart of the Znojmo wine sub-region of South Moravia, Czech Republic. The winery takes its name from the Thaya (Dyje) River, which flows through the Podyjí National Park and shapes the character of the surrounding vineyards.

The estate cultivates around 105 hectares of vineyards, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and respect for nature—some parcels are farmed organically, and all are managed with minimal intervention. The diverse soils and microclimates of the Znojmo region provide ideal conditions for aromatic white varieties such as Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling, as well as elegant reds including Pinot Noir and Blaufränkisch.

Thaya’s philosophy combines tradition with innovation. Under the guidance of chief enologist Jakub Smrčka, the winery uses spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and a wide range of vessels, from stainless steel tanks to large oak barrels and amphorae, allowing each wine to express its origin. The approach highlights purity, freshness, and terroir expression, while maintaining a distinctive house style.

Beyond winemaking, Thaya has developed into a destination estate, with a contemporary winery complex that includes a hotel, restaurant, and tasting facilities, offering guests a complete wine tourism experience in the scenic Moravian landscape.

The winery’s achievements have been recognized nationally: it was awarded Winery of the Year 2022 (medium-sized category), and its winemaker Jakub Smrčka was named Oenologist of the Year, underlining the estate’s role as one of the most dynamic and respected producers in the Czech Republic.
