Czech wines

Moravia accounts for roughly 96 percent of all Czech wine production. The region splits into four sub-regions: Znojmo, Mikulov, Velké Pavlovice, and Slovácká. Bohemia, to the west, is smaller in volume but has vineyards along the Elbe river that have been cultivated since the medieval period. The wines on this page ship directly from the producer's cellar. No importer margin, no wholesale step in between.

Czech producers

Czech wine production stayed largely invisible to Western European markets through most of the twentieth century. Since the early 2000s, a new generation of small estates has shifted toward lower yields, native variety revival, and cellar practices that prioritise site expression over volume. Producers on FGS are quality-vetted before listing. Every wine is tasted by our Head of Product before it goes live.

Wine experts

Independent wine experts on FGS rate and review wines they have personally tasted. Their reviews appear on the wine page and on the expert's own profile. Several experts listed below have reviewed Czech wines featured on this page, including wines made from native varieties such as Pálava and Welschriesling that rarely appear in standard wine education.

Frequently asked questions

How do I order Czech wines on Free Grape Society?

Browse the wines below, add bottles to your cart, and check out in one step. Each listing shows the producer, region, variety, and vintage. Wines ship directly from the producer's cellar in the Czech Republic to your delivery address. No account is required to browse.

Can I order wines from more than one Czech producer in the same order?

Yes. You can add wines from multiple producers to a single cart. Each producer ships their own wines separately, so a single order may arrive as more than one delivery. The checkout process handles this automatically.

How does FGS decide which Czech wines to list?

Every wine on FGS is tasted by our Head of Product before it goes live. Only wines that pass the quality review are listed. Independent wine experts also rate and review individual wines on the platform. No producer pays for placement.

Are Czech wines on FGS from small producers or larger wineries?

The selection leans toward independent family estates. Czech wine culture is dominated by small-plot producers, particularly in Moravia, where many estates farm under two hectares. Large co-operative labels and industrial brands are not listed on FGS.

What happens if a bottle arrives broken or doesn't taste right?

Send a photo to FGS customer support within 7 days of delivery. We will arrange a replacement or a refund. Because producers ship directly, quality issues are handled with the producer's direct involvement. Shared responsibility is built into how FGS works.

Which Czech wine expert can recommend something for me?

Several wine experts on FGS have reviewed Czech wines and can provide recommendations. Browse the expert profiles below to find one whose focus matches what you are looking for. You can message any expert directly through their profile page.

Why don't you sell Czech wines from the supermarket brands?

Supermarket Czech wines are typically produced at high volume for wholesale distribution. The producers on FGS ship directly from their own cellar, which means the bottle changes hands once, not three times. The wines are also structurally different: smaller plots, lower yields, and variety choices that wholesale channels rarely carry.

Can I find Czech wines that are not available at Systembolaget?

Almost all Czech wines on FGS are not available at Systembolaget. Independent Moravian estates producing in small volumes rarely meet the minimum order quantities that retail distribution requires. That structural gap is part of why they use FGS instead.

How long does delivery take?

Average delivery is 8 to 9 days from order to door. The full range is 4 to 14 days depending on the producer's location in the Czech Republic and your delivery address. Wines ship directly from the producer's cellar, not from a central warehouse.
