Located in Villafranca del Bierzo, the Villegas vineyards are planted with over 100-year-old vines on south-facing clay-loam soils at 554–605 metres above sea level. Steep slopes, low yields, and a predominance of Mencía result in concentrated fruit, freshness, and a strong expression of terroir.

Winemaker:

Nacho Léon

Fermentation takes place in small stainless-steel tanks using indigenous yeasts, with alcoholic fermentation reaching temperatures of up to 28 °C. As the wine is run off the skins, it is transferred directly into barrel, followed by a two-day post-fermentation maceration to refine structure. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrel, after which the wine is aged for 24 months in fine-grain French oak, with a single racking. Following barrel ageing, the wine rests for a further eight months in stainless-steel tanks to harmonise before bottling. No stabilization is applied, preserving the wine’s natural character.
