The story of Kostaki Winery begins far from the Aegean Sea—somewhere between the vineyards of France and the mountains of Bavaria. It was during their winemaking studies in France that two young vintners, Evmorfia Kostaki from Samos and Lorenz Immerfall from Bavaria, first crossed paths. They bonded over a shared curiosity for wine, a love for travel, and a desire to create something honest and rooted in place.

After years of wandering through cellars and vineyards across Europe, their compass eventually pointed toward Evmorfia’s home: Samos Island. There, the Kostaki family tended old organic vineyards—dry-farmed, bush-trained, and planted not with modern French clones, but with a precious massal selection of Muscat blanc à petits grains, the island’s emblematic grape. These vines, certified organic since 1999, were among the oldest of their kind on Samos.

But making wine on Samos was, for decades, nearly impossible for private hands. Since 1934, all production was controlled by the island’s cooperative. For generations, no one outside it could legally produce wine. That began to change only because of one man’s resolve: Evmorfia’s father. In 2004, he challenged the law that forbade private winemaking. The battle lasted eleven long years—years filled with paperwork, persistence, and resistance. Then, in 2015, he won. At last, the door opened for private wineries to exist on the island.

By 2023, Evmorfia and Lorenz stepped through that door. They took over the Kostaki family’s vineyards and founded Kostaki Winery. Their mission was clear: to work exclusively with Muscat à petits grains and to revive the rustic, soulful character that once defined Samos wines.

Today, their wines are shaped by old vines, terraces, island winds, and an unbroken family fight for independence. Kostaki Winery is not just a new chapter in Samos winemaking—it is the continuation of a story rooted in tradition, resilience, and a deep respect for the island’s singular grape.
