LOSADA VINOS DE FINCA: The Elegance of Clay-Grown Mencía

A New Vision for El Bierzo

Founded on the principles of innovative viticulture and a deep respect for the Berciano terroir, Losada Vinos de Finca represents the modern soul of El Bierzo. Located in the traditional winemaking heart of Pieros—midway between Cacabelos and Villafranca—Losada has carved its own path by challenging the status quo.

While many sought the slate slopes of the region, Losada looked closer to the earth, specifically to the ancient clay soils surrounding Valtuille and Pieros. Here, the native Mencía grape finds a different expression: wines of profound color, balanced acidity, and a silky, fleshy texture that sets them apart.

The Mastery of Terroir

Our philosophy is one of "slow winemaking"—observing and interpreting each of our 22 small plots (locally known as piezas). Across our 8 hectares of old, bush-pruned vines, we follow traditional methods with a subtle use of French oak. This ensures that the barrel never masks the identity of the land; instead, it allows the terroir to remain the true protagonist.

The Varieties of Our Land

  • Mencía: The crown jewel of El Bierzo since the Middle Ages. Our centenarian vines thrive in a unique microclimate—protected from northern winds by the mountains—producing authentic reds with great aging potential.
  • Godello: A rare and precious white variety adapted to our slopes. With small, concentrated berries, it produces wines of exceptional structure and freshness.
  • Garnacha Tintorera: Representing just 2% of the region’s vineyard, this variety (also known as Alicante Bouschet) provides deep color and intensity to our most characteristic blends.

A Revolution in Quality: The New Zoning

El Bierzo is currently undergoing a historical transformation, adopting a classification system inspired by the great regions of Burgundy. This zoning highlights the prestige of specific municipalities and single vineyards. At Losada, we are proud to lead this movement with four certified wines that honor their specific origins:

  • Altos de Losada: Vino de Villa de Valtuille de Arriba
  • Altos de Losada – La Bienquerida: Vino de Paraje “Las Chas”
  • Altos de Losada – El Cepón: Vino de Paraje “El Cepón”
  • Altos de Losada Godello: Vino de Villa de San Lorenzo
