About us

Clos Pachem is a boutique winery located in Gratallops, in the heart of Priorat (DOQ Priorat). It was founded in 2015 by Michel Grupper, a Swiss entrepreneur passionate about fine wine and the unique character of Priorat’s old-vine Garnacha, a name with which he honors his three children as the name is the acronym for PAul, CHarles and EMma.

From the beginning, the project aimed to reinterpret Priorat through a lens of elegance and balance. Clos Pachem seeks a fresher, more refined expression of the terroir. The philosophy is centered on precision, purity, and respect for the landscape. The goal is to allow each vineyard parcel to express its identity, particularly the influence of the region’s characteristic llicorella (slate) soils.

The winery works primarily with Garnatxa (Grenache), and Carinyena (Carignan). The wines are defined by vibrant red fruit, floral notes, subtle spice, marked minerality, and fine, well-integrated tannins. The result is a style that combines Mediterranean depth with finesse and drinkability.

Sustainability is a core value at Clos Pachem. Vineyards are farmed organically, biodynamic and regenerative, paying attention to soil health and biodiversity. Many plots consist of old vines planted on steep terraces, requiring manual work and hand harvesting. Low yields and rigorous grape selection ensure high quality while respecting the natural balance of the vines.

The winery building itself reflects this commitment to sustainability. Designed by the prestigious studio Harquitectes with natural materials such as clay bricks and conceived to optimize passive climate control, it reduces energy consumption and integrates harmoniously into the village of Gratallops.

This holistic approach—linking architecture, viticulture, and winemaking—embodies Clos Pachem’s vision: to craft terroir-driven wines with authenticity, elegance, and environmental responsibility.
