Domaine L&R Kox, located in Remich at the heart of Luxembourg's Moselle region, stands out for its pioneering spirit and constant pursuit of excellence. Managed by the Kox family for several generations, the estate embodies a subtle balance between winemaking tradition and innovation. Descended from the Coex family, who immigrated from Bergeijk (Brabant) to Remich in 1644, the Kox family continues the cultivation of vineyards established by many generations before them. In 1977, Laurent Kox together with his wife Rita (L&R Kox) took over the winery from his father François Kox. One of the estate’s greatest strengths lies in its experimental approach: several plots are dedicated to researching new viticultural practices, lesser-known grape varieties, and more sustainable methods of vine training. This scientific curiosity extends into the cellar, where various winemaking techniques are explored – aging in stainless steel tanks, barrels, kvevris, or even Roman amphorae, long macerations, and experiments with spontaneous fermentation – all aimed at revealing the full complexity of the Moselle terroir. The estate also places great importance on biodiversity and environmentally conscious viticulture, gradually adopting more natural practices. The result: elegant, precise, and often surprising wines that reflect the richness of the soil, the character of the vintage, and the boldness of their creators. In 2019, Corinne, the daughter of Laurent and Rita, joined the family estate, bringing with her a new dynamic. A trained molecular biologist, she adds a scientific momentum to the estate’s already well-established culture of experimentation. With her background in research, she has taken the approach to new heights, incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as drones for vineyard management. More recently, through the “Orchard” project, she has focused her work on vitiforestry and agroecology.
