Domaine Achillée

Our story begins in 1990 with Yves Dietrich taking over 4 hectares of the family estate. He converts these vineyards to Organic Agriculture in 1999, and then to Biodynamic Agriculture in 2003. In 2016, his sons Pierre and Jean decided to create their own vineyard. They partnered with their father to showcase the family's grapes and market their wines under their own label. At the heart of the wine route in Alsace, in Scherwiller, in 2016, they built the largest self-supporting straw building in Europe. A bioclimatic cellar, mainly composed of local and environmentally friendly materials. Today, all our wines are certified in Organic and Biodynamic Agriculture. The vineryard covers 28 hectares.
The Achillée vineyard is rooted in Biodynamic agriculture and considers the plant and its environment form an ecosystem that needs to be balanced. Biodynamic agriculture eliminates all synthetic inputs and advocates for practices that promote soil quality and the rooting of the vines. The Dietrich family noticed that a plant was omnipresent in their plots: the Yarrow, Achillée in french. This upright flower, with numerous and uniform blooms reminiscent of the dry, saline, and balanced wines of the vinyard, is particularly valued in Biodynamics because it does not compete with the vine and can be used for medicinal purposes once turned into oil.
Part of the vineyard is located on poor, gravelly sandy soils, where the vines grow deep roots in search of nutrients. The terroirs of Blienschwiller and Dambach-la-Ville are essentially composed of clay, which is particularly conducive to the expression of sylvaner aromas. The third notable terroir is the rich sandstone found on the Hahnenberg. The Schieferberg, Alsatian for schist mountain, is located in Bernardvillé. This terroir refines the aromas of the Riesling, giving it great salinity.
The Grand Cru Frankstein and the Rittersberg, with their deep granite soils and subsoils, give the wine uprightness and structured acidity. Great Riesling, but also Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, can be made here
