About us

Tenuta Il Finale was founded on a simple belief: that meaningful wine begins with respect. Respect for the vineyard, for native varieties, and for the people who care for the land every day. This belief shapes how we farm, how we make wine, and how we welcome guests to the estate.

Our story begins in Costigliole d’Asti, widely regarded as the historic heartland of Barbera. Here, our vineyards are spread across four small sites of old-vine stock, all within a few kilometres of our cellars. Each site has its own character, shaped by steep limestone-rich slopes, natural drainage, and a local microclimate that plays a defining role in the wines. From the outset, our focus has been clear: to work exclusively with native Piemonte varieties — Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis — and to let this place speak through them with clarity and restraint.

Tenuta Il Finale is intentionally small and hands-on. We are not driven by volume or trends, but by long-term care for the land. Farming is sustainable and biodiverse, guided by observation rather than force. We work with nature rather than imposing upon it, adjusting to each season as it unfolds. Yields are kept low by choice, allowing the vines to produce fruit with depth, balance and natural expression. The health of the soil sits at the centre of everything we do, because we believe great wine is grown, not made.

Wine here is never treated as something separate from daily life. It is part of a wider, living environment. The land, the climate and the region’s deep winemaking heritage all play their part, as does the human element. Our winemaking is led by an experienced Italian team whose approach balances tradition with curiosity. We work with minimal intervention, allowing each vineyard’s character to emerge clearly. Careful selection, gentle handling and restrained use of oak support wines that reflect fruit, soil and climate rather than technique. Rather than imposing a fixed house style, we respond to what each season gives us.

Barbera remains the heart of the estate and is expressed in several ways, depending on vineyard and vintage. Alongside it, we proudly champion Dolcetto and Arneis — varieties that have long been part of local culture but are often overlooked. We see them as both culturally significant and increasingly relevant today. Naturally suited to the land and resilient in the face of climatic change, these grapes offer freshness, balance and moderate alcohol. They produce wines that feel authentic, approachable and well suited to modern drinking, while remaining deeply rooted in Piemonte tradition.

All these influences shape the character of Tenuta Il Finale just as much as the vineyards do.

Rooted in tradition, open to change, and guided by care and curiosity, Tenuta Il Finale offers a warm and authentic way to experience Piemonte — one season, one conversation, and one glass at a time whether at home or when visiting our winery.
